Monitor temperature inside refrigerators and freezers with the Certified Refrigerator/Freezer Alarm Thermometer. The thermometer features a probe sealed in a small bottle of propylene glycol, a harmless solution, classified as GRAS (generally recognized as safe).  This enclosed temperature-buffered sensor ensures accurate temperature measurements that are not impacted by rapid temperature fluctuations caused by frequent refrigerator/freezer door opening. It also mimics temperature readings in a medium similar to the common fluids stored in refrigerators and freezers in labs.

The Certified Refrigerator/Freezer Alarm Thermometer has a min/max memory for storing the lowest and highest temperature reading for the internal or external sensor, in any time period.  The internal sensor shows ambient air temperature, while the external sensor, which is attached to a 10-ft (3 meter) cord and sealed in the propylene glycol bottle, monitors and displays the temperature of the medium to which it is exposed. The device also provides a selectable ºC/ºF scale and min/max alarm setting features with audible warnings for out-of–range temperature conditions measured by the external sensor. Model 12213 has the CE mark and is N.I.S.T. traceable, therefore compliant with the specifications from the Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Vaccine Storage and Handling Toolkit.

All these features, along with its particular design makes the Certified Refrigerator/Freezer Alarm Thermometer especially suitable for vaccine and blood bank storage applications, as monitoring and maintaining proper storage temperatures is critical in the lab or provider’s office.  Accordingly to CDC, the temperature of a refrigerator or freezer used for vaccine storage should be checked and recorded at least twice a day.  Using continuous monitoring temperature alarm systems is especially recommended for facilities storing large vaccine inventories. Moreover, the Vaccine for Children (VFC) Site Visit Questionnaire requires a practice to have one certified thermometer per refrigerator or freezer compartment for recording temperature.
