Non-Contact Infrared Thermometers—for Surfaces (Not Humans)

Having lived with the COVID-19 pandemic for over a year, almost everyone now know what a non-contact infrared forehead thermometer is. But, what about non-contact IR thermometers for surfaces rather than people. Such non-contact IR thermometers have been around for many years prior to COVID-19 and are great for getting a quick temperature measurement in a wide variety of settings. These include food establishments, distribution centers, cold storage, processing facilities, conveyer belts with moving products, and hard-to-reach areas.

For example, when a load of produce crates arrives and must be inspected quickly, having a non-contact thermometer can save time during check-in—without any touching, puncturing or contamination. Elevated temperatures are often a sign of trouble. A quick temperature check can detect or prevent problems from occurring.

In the poultry industry, hatchery managers might use a non-contact IR gun to measure the litter temperature. In hatcheries, maintaining a warm enough temperature is important for moisture evaporation but having temperatures too warm can allow more pathogens to form.

DeltaTrak has been selling infrared thermometers that measure surface temperatures for years. For example, the infrared gun model 15041 measures temperatures of surfaces between -76°F and 932°F. This IR gun features a 12:1 distance to spot ratio to measure targets at longer distances. The jumbo LCD is backlit, allowing you to take in the temperature reading at a glance when screening large batches. There are a variety of these IR thermometers for surfaces to choose from. Perhaps such non-contact IR thermometers can be as helpful to you as those IR thermometers for forehead temperatures.
