Proper cold chain practices are essential in minimizing risk when handling and transferring vaccines through the supply chain from the manufacturer to the patient.
In order to lessen the risk and better monitor vaccine temperatures, DeltaTrak has developed the FlashLink 40527 Certified Vaccine Logger. This product conforms to all CDC guidelines and is prequalified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a temperature monitoring device.

When measuring the temperature of a product in a facility or in-transit, most systems only report ambient temperatures. Oftentimes, however, it is more relevant to get an accurate measurement of the internal temperature of the product itself. That’s where ColdTrak® Product Emulation from DeltaTrak can help.
DeltaTrak offers Product Emulation based on an algorithm in the ColdTrak Data Central cloud, which derives internal product temperature from the ambient air temperature data uploaded to ColdTrak.

A couple of years ago, I took my kids to a fruit orchard in the Bay Area. The orchard had some blackberry bushes, so we picked a lot of berries that hot June day and then went on to also pick some apricots.
We placed the cardboard box with the berries on the back seat of the car and drove home--about an hour away. From that hour in the car which included the time it took the car to cool down, the berries had left bright purple-colored stains on the box. Clearly, the berries had suffered from the heat and would all have to be eaten quickly or be thrown away.
In a world where almost everyone has a smart phone and other mobile devices, DeltaTrak is moving along with technology by developing mobile temperature logging devices for transit, and one of their newest products, the FlashLink Mini, fits nicely into this trend.

A new release from DeltaTrak® offers possible tracking solutions for import/export operations. Single-use and compact in size, DeltaTrak® says that its FlashLink Mini PDF In-Transit Logger was developed for streamlined ease of use.
I guess by now the rumors are true and the FDA has recently (late 2015) announced that it will begin much more stringent inspections for compliance to 21 CFR Part 11 regulations related to and concerning electronic records, audit trails concerning metadata, and signatures that need to be actual and trustworthy, plus validation of products.
It goes without saying – but I’ll say it anyway – the longer the shipping duration is for temperature sensitive commodities, the stricter the requirements become when choosing the right data logger. Longer transportation times yield a broader chance for mishaps to arise during the trip. That’s why DeltaTrak has specially designed a temperature monitoring device you can trust; one that has a long battery life; one that will go on and on - sort of like that crazy rabbit on TV.
Delays in cooling after harvest and improperly cooled produce means significant loss of shelf life. FlashTrak Telematics Pre-Cooling Solution is an automated technology that improves efficiency of your operations. Are you pre-cooling too long or not long enough?

With an increased activity in the developing nations to improve food safety initiatives - coupled with the launch of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), plus a greater than ever demand for foods high in protein and fresher frozen goods - the need for refrigerated transportation solutions has become a highlight within the cold chain industry.
DeltaTrak, Inc. is a finalist in the New Product Awards Competition during United Fresh 2015, June 9 & 10. DeltaTrak’s FlashLink PDF Multi-Use Data Logger is a plug-and-play temperature logger with built-in USB connector and on-board software. This device allows an easy way to download data as a secure PDF to a PC without special reading devices or additional software.
DeltaTrak, Inc. has recently launched four new temperature loggers for the cold chain industry. These loggers provide guaranteed data and easy to download features. The FlashLink VU Universal Produce Logger, the FlashLink Prime Universal Produce Data Logger, and the Cold Chain Export USB Logger all include DeltaTrak’s patented Shadow Log™ feature, which guarantees data even if a shipper forgets to start the unit. And the FlashLink PDF Multi-Use Data Logger is the ideal device to use for documenting storage and transport conditions of perishable products, or for monitoring ambient temperature facilities.
DeltaTrak’s Director of Strategic Sales, Robert Bright, presented the FlashTrak Telematics solution and its product emulation capability to the Supply Chain Logistics Council during the United Fresh Midwinter Leadership Forum. This pioneering technology, with mobile and facility applications, gives produce growers, shippers, and receivers the ability to monitor the actual product temperature from harvest through the pre-cooling process, and during transportation and storage.
DeltaTrak showcased its new FlashLink Cold Chain Export USB Data Logger. This single-use, in-transit data logger is designed specifically with DeltaTrak cold chain USB data logger export shipments in mind, to track products from the packing shed to the dock, from port to port, all the way to warehouses and distribution centers overseas.
Ease of mind is what you want when you transport a large quantity of consumable product. Trust is what you need in the solutions that are monitoring your various perishable commodities, especially once they leave your domain. DeltaTrak’s reliable temperature monitoring solutions are made specifically for all points in the cold chain process.
Like many of us that work in this industry I always follow very closely the presentations from the Spring and early Summer rounds of trade events and industry meetings to see what might be new.
Being that cold chain and drug security are close to my own areas of personal interest I always tune in on the articles and data related to these two areas.
Late last month the FDA CBER (Consumer Affairs Branch) issued an advisor notice to interested persons containing information related to the storage and use of temperature sensitive biological products that have been involved in a temporary electrical power failure, or flood conditions.
According to the FDA, an estimated 83,609 businesses will be affected by FSMA and the proposed Sanitation Transportation Rule. These businesses must start complying with the new requirements 60 days after the final ruling. The FDA has recently extended the comment period on this proposed rule to July 30 2014, with some leeway being given to smaller businesses.
I am sure that most of the Blog readers are familiar with MKT (Mean Kinetic Temperature) calculations, but just in case you are not, MKT is defined by the United States Pharmacopeia as:
On January 17th, 2014, the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed that they had completed their testing of the DeltaTrak FlashLink Certified Vaccine Data Logger with Glycol Bottle and this product was now prequalified to be included in its list of recommended products.
